JOHN AND JEANNE HARMS

Jeanne and John with their dogs, Ally and Molly

John and Jeanne Harms moved to Brunswick Forest this past October after a four-year search for the perfect retirement community. The couple credits Brunswick Forest Sales Executive, Kim Fanelli, with helping them make their final decision to move to Brunswick Forest, and for assisting them in finding the perfect floor plan that met their needs. Their lovely, modified Grace II home, built by Trusst Builder Group, is bright and spacious with extra room added to the dining area off the kitchen to create the perfect space for Jeanne to serve the meals she is so fond of preparing. “I love to cook and entertain,” says Jeanne. She points out her tall bookcase full of cookbooks. “We are looking forward to eating more seafood now that we live on the coast again.”

John and Jeanne Harms are from Long Island originally, but moved to Brunswick Forest from State College, Pennsylvania, where they lived for 40 years. “We bleed blue and white,” Jeanne jokes. Since coming to North Carolina, the couple has enjoyed getting to know the area a little bit better and exploring some of the local restaurants. “State College is a very rural area,” explains Jeanne. “To us, Wilmington feels like a big city.”

Brunswick Forest’s wide array of amenities drew the couple to the community and they are looking forward to taking full advantage of them. John, a retired CPA, is considering taking up golf again at Cape Fear National on top of recently starting to play pickleball. Jeanne, for her part, joined the Brunswick Forest Book Club and is hoping to attend more cooking classes with The Forest’s Chef Randall. “We hope to become more active now that we are here,” says Jeanne. A retired nurse, Jeanne has a keen interest in helping to bring more educational classes to the community, and she has a particular desire to educate people about delirium and dementia studies after having taken part in a prominent Penn State study on the subject when she worked at the university.

John and Jeanne say they are happy with their decision to move to Brunswick Forest and to be back in a coastal town. “We did like Wilmington from the start,” says John, “but now we’re in love with the area.”

Welcome to the neighborhood, John and Jeanne! We are so glad you are here.
