GETTING TO KNOW THE LELAND AREA ROTARY CLUB

March 8, 2015
Brunswick Forest

At Brunswick Forest, residents have not only a number of activities and clubs available to them within the community, but also a host of wonderful local organizations in the surrounding area. One of these organizations is the Leland Area Rotary Club, whose current president is Brunswick Forest Sales Executive, Michael Braddock II.

The club is an organization made up of business leaders, primarily based in Northern Brunswick County, who gather together to network as well as provide service to the community. The club meets weekly, and has a varying agenda for each meeting, but maintains the intention of furthering their mission of “service above self.”

WEEKLY MEETINGS
The first Thursday of each month, Leland Area Rotary Club members gather at Leland Town Hall to stuff 120 backpacks with food for underprivileged Lincoln Elementary School students. The club meets at the Holiday Inn Express in Leland on the second and third Thursdays of each month, where members are often addressed by a guest speaker. The last Friday of the month, the club hosts a social gathering at Leland’s Plaza Mariachi restaurant where spouses and partners are encouraged to attend.

A FOCUS ON FURTHERING LOCAL STUDENTS’ EDUCATION AND ERADICATING HUNGER
The club has chosen to focus their local service efforts on hunger and education. Aside from the monthly backpack food distribution, the club also supplies dictionaries to local students, provides educational scholarships, takes part in a monthly food pantry and sponsors a mentoring program for local teens.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Guests are always welcome at the club meetings and anyone interested in becoming a member can visit the club’s website to learn more information.
