BRUNSWICK FOREST’S NEWEST SPORT!
PICKLEBALL TAKES OVER!
The game of Pickleball is quickly catching fire among Brunswick Forest residents as the newest sport for friends and neighbors. It may have a funny name but Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and has been around since 1965 where it originated in Washington State. A mix between tennis, badminton, and ping pong, Pickleball is comprised of a small paddle and wiffle ball that is hit over a court similar to tennis court yet smaller in size. This new sport is quickly becoming a favorite among community members in Brunswick Forest and throughout the entire Brunswick County area!
HOW IT WORKS
Pickleball is both fun and active and begins with a serve made diagonally and underhanded to the opposing team. One thing to remember is that points are only earned by the team serving and this team or player will continue to serve until a fault is made. Pickleball players may only volley the ball when standing behind the non-volley zone line, which is seven feet behind the net. Several factors can cause a player to fault while playing, such as the ball is…
•Hit out of bounds
•Does not clear the net
•Is volleyed from a non-volley zone
•Is volleyed before a bounce has occurred on each side
