The Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center of Brunswick County have been described as “heaven on earth, and a refuge of peace and serenity.” The Lower Cape Fear Hospice has been serving patients and their families since 1980 and just last year cared for 2,316 patients. Brunswick Forest chose to make Lower Cape Fear Hospice their charity of choice and partners with this organization on many initiatives. With the help of Brunswick Forest as well as many others, the Life Care Center of Brunswick County was able to become a reality this year.
Providing a helping hand on the board of trustees as well as the Closer to Home campaign committee is Brunswick Forest’s very own Resale Specialist, Lorri Shipston! Lorri has been an unwavering force in organizing and helping the Life Care Center of Brunswick County get on its feet. She says of her involvement thus far with the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, “This has been a great experience, the organization is extremely well ran and many of the people who are involved have been touched by hospice in some way themselves.” Since her initial involvement with this project, Lorri has found her true passion for helping others. With her help, the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center was able to secure a piece of land perfect for the Life Care Center that is located just minutes from the local area hospital.
Since the Closer to Home campaign’s inception, the organization has secured donations that total $4.3 million. “The new life care center is a true legacy and gift for the county,” comments Lorri Shipston. “The life care center has the qualities of a hospital but the feel of being at home and the facility is also designed to make the guests and visitors of patients feel at ease as well. Brunswick Forest was a big help with this charity and continues to help by hosting the annual Closer to Home Golf Tournament, so make sure to tee it up at next year’s event May 16th, 2013!”
