LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Golfers hit the links today in Brunswick County to benefit the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation.

The proceeds from the Closer to Home Golf Classic at Cape Fear National will go to benefit the foundation’s Brunswick County Capital Campaign. It was established to better serve the residents of brunswick county by building a hospice care center within the county.

“We’re building a hospice care center here in Brunswick County to serve the patients and families of Brunswick County,” Hospice VP of Development Laurie Taylor said. “It’s a seven-bed care center. I’m real excited the funds will go to support that capital campaign.”

The project has raised more than $1.7 million so far.

Today’s event also included an auction for vacation trips and golf apparel, as well as a chance to be a extra in the locally-filmed t-v show “Eastbound and Down.”
