The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington offers experiential and educational programming geared toward adults aged 50 and older. Residents of Brunswick Forest have easy access to the programs put forth by the Osher Lifelong Learning Center through classes held at the university’s main campus, the Brunswick Community College Leland campus and programs held right within the community via the Brunswick Forest Fitness and Wellness Center.

Programs Across the Nation

The Osher Lifelong Learning Center at UNCW is one of 119 programs across the country funded by the Bernard Osher Foundation. This prestigious foundation was started by businessman Bernard Osher who sought to create programs that would enrich the lives of his fellow Americans and support higher education and the arts.

Osher Programs at UNCW

The University of North Carolina at Wilmington has some one of the country’s most active Osher Lifelong Learning programs and offers hundreds of non-credit courses each year. Residents of Brunswick Forest can choose to expand their education in such fields as creative writing, music, history, business, digital photography, art, technology and more.

An Unconventional Learning Environment

Classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Center are non-traditional in that they do not always take place in a classroom setting. Students may listen to a lecture at the university campus or right within the community at the Brunswick Forest Community Commons. Some of the experiential classes take place at the beach or the theater, and there are even field trips for programs like the wine tasting weekend in North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley.
