Beautiful historic downtown Wilmington, just a quick drive from Brunswick Forest, has been named by the readers of USA Today and 10Best as the Best Al Fresco Dining Neighborhood in the country! A team of expert traveling foodies chose 20 streets and neighborhoods across the country that they believed had the best outdoor dining, and readers voted over the course of a month to decide that lovely Wilmington was their favorite pick of the group.
Downtown Wilmington’s history dates back several centuries and, throughout the city’s history, it remained important for trade due to the city’s port and easy access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Cape Fear River. This river, combined with the charming historic buildings and cobblestone streets make for a beautiful backdrop for outdoor dining.
Downtown Wilmington has many restaurants that have sidewalk tables perfect for enjoying an al fresco lunch while people-watching and soaking up the North Carolina sunshine. On your next visit to Brunswick Forest, head downtown and enjoy a meal street-side at Circa 1922, The Husk, Beer Barrio, Front Street Brewery or Fat Tony’s Italian Pub.
Downtown Wilmington’s beautiful Riverwalk also offers more opportunities for outdoor dining! Enjoy a meal while looking out over the Cape Fear River or taking in the awe-inspiring view of the USS North Carolina Battleship, which is stationed right across the river. Elijah’s, the Pilot House, The George, and Le Catalan all offer outdoor dining on their beautiful decks that adjoin the Riverwalk.
